Mouse Tissue Lineage Hierarchy

Overview

This document describes a preliminary tissue lineage hierarchy from the Caltech µMRI Atlas of Mouse Development in collaboration with the Edinburgh Mouse Atlas Project (EMAP).

Short Description

An aspect of embryonic development is the process of cell and tissue differentiation.  Currently, embryonic atlases capture a static geometric and spatial representation of the developing organism.  As part of our Atlas project, we are tying anatomy for each stage of development with the developmental history for each anatomical component. The lineage hierarchy (ontology) being developed utilizes the EMAP IDs for anatomical components to leverage the wealth of gene expression data available through the MGI and EMAGE. Through this ontology, the gene expression history of tissues can be accessed. This incarnation of the ontology is an exercise in the construction of such a hierarchy.
